Macro-regional strategies as tools or experimentalist governance

Monday, 20 March, 2017
Brussels, Belgium

Outline

To a growing degree, macro-regional strategies (MRS) have become a subject of academic research and analysis. Moreover, a growing number of studies have been published dealing with the challenges and potentials of MRS in the future. This has led to an increasing body of knowledge which is of high relevance not only for the key implementers of MRS, but also with regard to:

  • The future of MRS, especially with regard to the next MFF and the future of Interreg and cohesion policy as a whole;
  • The promotion of MRS, also in relation to education and training;
  • The institutionalisation and capacity development of MRS;
  • A mutual exchange between well-informed academia and practitioners of MRS;
  • The evaluation and monitoring of MRS.

Objectives

The workshop will assemble a small number of participants with the aim contribute to develop a short Interact publication. This publication should not be descriptive or academic, but rather intends to provide a bigger picture and deliver concrete policy recommendations for an enhanced implementation of MRS.
