Event Details
The maritime aspects of climate change
Outlines
The activities of the ‘Knowledge of the Seas’ network consist of two main components: to jointly RECEIVE knowledge of the seas through sharing knowledge and exchange of experiences at thematic seminars. And to jointly PRODUCE AND PROMOTE knowledge of the seas, e.g. at public events like the European Maritime Days 2016 in Turku/Finland, 2017 in Poole/UK, 2018 in Burgas/Bulgaria and this year in Lisbon/Portugal. This event now is the meanwhile sixth thematic meeting of the ‘Knowledge of the seas’ network. After focusing among others on maritime safety and security (2017) and transport (2018), this year’s thematic network meeting will look at the maritime aspects of climate change.
Objectives
The first day provides an opportunity to learn from and exchange with policy and strategic actors, thematic experts, EU funding programmes and cooperation projects how to tackle climate change. Moreover, to discuss how to best join forces in tackling climate change. The second day is then devoted to the Knowledge of the seas network itself, its ongoing and future activities – naturally reflecting on and taking into account the discussions from the first day. The target group of this event are on the one hand Interreg Programmes with a maritime character or component, and especially Joint Secretariat staff members dealing with maritime project generation, assessment, monitoring and support. At the same time, the meeting will provide a broader approach also inviting thematic experts and stakeholders as well as project representatives to ensure a holistic view to the topic of the maritime aspects of climate change.
